Walk to the Willows in Ryton

On Wednesday 28th September Year 2 went for a walk to the Willows. We were thankful that the weather was on our side. We looked in the woods first. We identified lots of plants such as ivy, fungi, moss, bracken, nettles, blackberries etc. We were able to collect some things from the woodland floor to take back to school to look at.

We then went to the pond. We took some buckets to scoop up pond life. We found duck weed, water skaters, water spiders and small pond shrimp. We were able to see a shoal of stickle back fish. A large dragonfly as well as beautiful blue damsel flies. The colours were lovely.

The children and adults had a lovely time, however it was quite a challenge walking back up the hill to school when it was so warm.
