Geography trip to South Shields

Last Friday Year 1 enjoyed a trip to South Shields. As part of our geography work we spotted some of the features of a seaside locality. Back in the classroom we have been able to compare the features of South Shields with Ryton. We also used our senses to collect ideas about the things that we could see, hear, smell and feel. This work helped us to write our "Down by the Seaside" poems. We had time to play kick rounders, make sandcastles and bury one another too! Before lunch we had a quick paddle in the sea, it was freezng cold!!

Down by the Seaside by Evie (1W):

There goes the foghorn, it's half past three.
And down by the seaside you will see ...

Ten fish swimming
Nine mums chatting
Eight children diving
Seven dogs barking
Six lighthouses blinking
Five crabs clapping
Four beach balls floating
Three seagulls screeching
Two sandcastles crumbling
One ice-cream melting.

The sun is out, it's half past three.
And the first to the seaside ... is me!
