Changing Materials

Over the past few weeks we have been looking at materials and their properties.
We have been "helping" 4 Dragons - Fire Dragon, Ice Dragon, Water Dragon and Cloud Dragon to find a bed that meets their requirements. We have also looked at how materials can be changed by heating them. We first looked at a piece of bread then toasted it. Then we looked at an egg before and after it was microwaved. The children talked about their properties before and after they were heated. It would have been so helpful to have one of the dragons to assist with their fire but unfortunately we had to rely on the toaster and microwave! The children then had to record their findings in a table they had produced themselves.

We investigated how materials can be changed by bending, strectching, twisting and squashing. The children were given rubber balls, elastic bands, sponges, blue tack, play dough and clay.
