Remembrance Day

In History, Year 2 have been learning about Remembrance Day. We found out why we wear poppies, why Remembrance Day is 11th November and who we are remembering. We visited our local War Memorial in Ryton. On our video you can view what we did at 11 o' clock on November 11th.

We also looked on the Ryton Memorial Website, to find information about some of the people on the memorial. It was interesting that there was a female name on the memorial as this is unusual and quite rare.
The children were very interested and brought in their own artefacts and photos belonging to their families. After reading ....The Best Christmas Present in The World by Michael Morpurgo...the children pretended to be soldiers in the trenches and wrote letters home describing the unusual circumstances of Christmas Day 1914.
